Going up there over Xmas. Any recommendations for something harder
than a gravel road that gives a good view of the area?

Thanks

Mt Mee State Forest
has a day use area and camping grounds for holders of State Forest
permits
some good tracks(you will need to get a permit for the tracks, they are
free)
the drive up is quite good, there is a restaurant at Mt Mee that
overlooks the entire Moreton Bay area, then you can travel north to
D'agular and then head towards Caboolture, at the top od the D'agular
range there is a road called Raans Rd on the left, go down that road
about 1/2 klm and look for the tracks going down the range on the right,

as for tracks in Brisbane, there really isn't any, most have been closed
and the land developed

it used to be here, I used to go in there and they would issue it on the
spot
The Department of Natural Resources
Mineral House
41 George Street Brisbane Q 4000
GPO Box 2454 Brisbane Q 4001
Phone: 07 3896 3111
Tollfree (outside Brisbane metro) 1800 803 788

But the Web page now says

A Permit to Traverse is required for vehicles to access Archer camping
area.
Contact QPWS on Ph:(07) 3227 7800 to obtain this permit.

https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/IAGDS020.do?parkId=3

call the Department of Natural Resources first and see if they still do
it
